The Role of Women's Consortia in the Advancement of Women in Academic Emergency Medicine

Women's groups at individual institutions or consortia across institutions are not only increasing in frequency but also have the potential to complement efforts to reduce and ultimately eliminate academic EM's disparities in women's rank advancement. By providing peer mentorship, increasing awareness of systemic biases, generating navigational capital, and mitigating institutional barriers, women's consortia have the potential to increase engagement, reduce attrition, and support women's advancement in academic EM. The potential return on investment generated by retaining talented women with a demonstrated commitment to caring for patients, their families, and themselves is a healthier working environment for everyone.
